Company Description

About the European Climate Foundation

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 280 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Context of the role

As towns, cities and countries around the world declare climate emergencies, seas rise, forests burn, glaciers melt, increasing numbers of people take to the streets demanding urgent action and our societies begin to wake up to what the science has been saying for many years, there has never been a more important time to be working on climate change.

In that context and as a not-for-profit organisation, we are looking for a talented digital all-rounder with up to two years of professional experience in digital communications to help us and our partners reach key audiences with relevant information in a timely way. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to use their digital skills to contribute to tackling one of the defining issues of our time within an impact-driven, skilled and fun global team.

As Junior Associate, Digital Communications, you would be part of the Strategic Communications team and report to one of our Digital Associates. ECF’s Strategic Communications team is the outreach unit of the foundation. Its role is to act as a centre of expertise for communication on climate change and to play an active role in helping create more political, media and public endorsement for action on climate change at an international, national and sectoral level. Team members deliver strategic advice, communications and outreach support to ECF’s programmes and its grantees, and work as part of a global network of communications experts to enhance the public debate on climate change and its solutions more broadly.

Position

Key responsibilities

As Junior Associate, Digital Communications, you would be responsible for:

  • Helping colleagues from ECF’s digital team to design, implement and report on digital campaigns:
    • Writing copy for graphics, videos and websites, and producing graphics and video content using tools such as Canva and Lumen5.
    • Posting content on a variety of social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
    • Setting up ads on social media platforms (especially Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter) and search engines (especially Google).
    • Helping to organise and maintain large-scale A/B testing programmes, and using digital metrics to assess which content is performing best in any given campaign or A/B test.
    • Creating simple campaign websites and helping to optimise them for search engines.
    • Producing campaign reports using tools such as Google Data Studio.
  • Completing research tasks (such as social listening analysis, and looking into new tools to help our work)
  • Administrative tasks (such as agenda setting, note taking, maintaining libraries and databases, and uploading invoices to the internal expenses platform).

Requirements

Experience and competencies

Essential:

  • Up to 2 years of professional experience in digital marketing or digital campaigning.

  • Experience running social media campaigns and channels on behalf of an organisation.
  • A familiarity with digital metrics and how to judge whether a campaign or piece of content has been successful or not.
  • An eye for design, and familiarity with content creation tools like Canva.
  • The passion and creativity required to experiment constantly.
  • Great English language skills, both written and verbal.
  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of ECF, and a commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.
  • The ability to work and learn quickly, both independently and as part of a team, in a fast-paced, international environment.
  • The disposition to work with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers.

Desirable:

  • Some experience setting up ads on social media platforms and search engines.
